Wool Carpet

Carpets are highly regarded to be among the best flooring option for residential use. While there are a number of materials you can choose from such as Olefin, nylon and acrylic, no other type of fiber can match the luxurious feel and high performance of a wool carpeting system.

Aside from its ability to repel water, wool carpet is also known to retain its height and form despite heavy foot traffic, which makes it an exceptional alternative if you want to invest on long lasting flooring material. Among the highly recommended choices is the cut pile and textured varieties that are easier to clean and features a striking tuft that would easily put all other carpet types to shame. However, wool carpet systems, as you might have already predicted comes with a significantly expensive price tag than other types. However, if you can easily afford such material without putting a strain on your budget, then by all means go ahead and get one. It is definitely one of the most sensible investments you will ever make for your home.

If you take a closer look at the composition of a wool carpet, its fiber structure closely resembles the roof shingles present in most residential construction. Such composition is largely responsible for its ability to effectively repel possible soiling, to as much as 25% better than other synthetic materials. This means you don need to constantly worry about the accumulation of dust and dirt of the pile surface. However, frequent cleaning is still critical, as one would assume in any carpet flooring system.

Regular vacuuming is an integral part in any wool carpet-cleaning program since nearly dry materials such as dirt and soil generally cause 80% of the damage on wool carpets. By efficiently removing such particles before that are deeply imbedded can effectively extend and preserve the beauty of your wool carpet system. For more competent cleaning, most wool carpet manufacturers would recommend the use of a canister or upright vacuum that features a rotating brush for cut pile varieties. If you have the Berber or Wilton long pile type, suction vacuums are more appropriate to prevent possible fuzzing.

As in any carpet system, preventive maintenance is a critical factor to preserve the beauty of your carpet. You can start by determining which areas receive extreme foot traffic or tracking and place absorbent matting to effectively take of the major brunt of accumulated dirt from shoes. This can prevent dirt from being dragged all the way to the other areas of the floor that would mean extra work for you. For accidental spills and stains, prompt action of spot cleaning can significantly help preventing the satin from penetrating through the wool. Generally, the recommended solution would be a teaspoon of Woolies, another teaspoon of vinegar and a quart of water. Keep a bottle of this solution handy for precaution.

All wool carpets have soil repellent properties, which means it doesn’t really need any particular cleaning system. However, it is generally recommended to treat you carpet to a professional cleaning service every 1-2 years of use. Make sure you choose a cleaner that has a sufficient knowledge on wool carpets, since it requires an entirely different treatment from Nylon. Take for example, stain repellant solutions with silicone that are usually used in Nylon and other synthetic carpet materials are not advisable for wool carpets and carpet should be thoroughly dry to prevent the growth of molds.

Knowing in a wool carpet is one thing, but your ability to preserve its grandeur is an entirely different matter altogether. Even if you have purchased the most expensive and high quality material off the rack, maintenance and preventive care still plays a major part in the years of serviceability of your carpet.
